Synopsis

On the brink of the 1936 Metaxas dictatorship, a unionist is murdered at a political rally. Suspicion falls on Sofianos, a disgraced police informant. Desperate to prove his innocence, he takes a visiting MP hostage in prison. The government faces a dilemma: yield to the blackmail and lose centrist support, or let the MP die and lose the Right.

Trivia

This was the first film in Theo Angelopoulos’s Trilogy on modern Greek History. This was followed by the films O thiasos (The Travelling Players,1975), and Oi kynigoi (The Hunters,1977). The film sold 37,414 tickets at its first screening in Athens, Piraeus, and the surrounding areas.
