Takis Papagiannidis (1947) was born in Thessaloniki, and lived there until his permanent relocation to Athens to study directing at the Hellenic Cinema and Television School Stavrakos. From 1972, he began directing short and feature-length films which garnered accolades in Greece and abroad. He directed several documentaries (To krevati, Stin taverna, Giorti sti Drapetsona, etc.), as well as television series (I prosklisi, Axiotimoi kyrioi, To galazio diamanti, Axion esti, etc.). He is a founding member of the cultural organizations Synchronos Kinimatografos, Panellinia Politistiki Kinisi, and Theatrikos Organismos Filotechnon. He has collaborated with magazines and newspapers (Synchronos Kinimatografos, Prosanatolismoi, Chroniko, Ta Nea). He taught at the Hellenic Cinema and Television School Stavrakos (1999–2016), wrote the book Skinothesia, Theoria kai praxi [Directing, Theory and Practice] (Kastaniotis, 2005) and contributed to the anthology Kinimatografos ’98: Etisios odigos [Cinema of ’98: Annual Guide] (PEKK, 1998).
